Today's ultrasound went well. Baby H quickly passed the breathing part of the test, and his movement was good. The cord blood flow number went up a little, showing that the blood flow was a little more decreased today compared to Monday. However, we were told the number is dynamic, and the high risk doctor I saw this morning said that, although it "recovered" somewhat since I came to the hospital, as the pregnancy progresses, it will likely increase. We were really not too surprised by the number, and we are grateful that it is still much lower than when they admitted me.
After the ultrasound, we were taken to the NICU for a tour. A very nice nurse took us through the brand new space at the hospital, and we saw that each of the tiny babies have their own little space. Each space has a nice rocker for the parents when they visit, and some families had left pictures, blankets, and stuffed animals for their little ones. She told us how the NICU staff feeds and takes care of the preemies. She explained the visitation procedures and even said that S could visit baby H in the NICU, which really surprised me. It is hard to have an idea of how long baby H would have to stay in the NICU, but our doctors feel that he will definitely have to be in there for a little while since he will be so early and since he will be so small compared to other babies of the same gestational age. I'm grateful that God is preparing our hearts for this and many of the other obstacles we have faced or will face in the coming weeks.

Glad to hear your ultrasound went well today and you were able to get the lay of the land of the NICU where Baby H will hang out at first. Keeping you all in our prayers...
ReplyDeleteI am so glad that you got a chance to see where H will be. I think having seen where he will be located helps to reduce anxiety too. Do not forget to take pictures when he is there they love looking at them when they are older.

What a blessing to see the NICU and get some answers about the baby's stay there, if needed. I too am thankful that S can visit and be with you in the NICU.
